Working With Me
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What will my sessions involve?
Sessions are solution-focused hypnotherapy and psychotherapy based. This means there will be both a talking part of the session which is then followed with hypnotherapy. The first part will involve questions around what you would like to achieve and we will look at strategies that you could use. These can be Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based or use Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).
The hypnotherapy is then centred around what we have talked about, whereby I will gently guide you into a relaxed state, where you will become more receptive to positive suggestions, around what we discussed.
How is this type of therapy different?
Many therapies involve talking about the past and any traumas. With solution-focused hypnotherapy, the sessions are forward-thinking towards achieving your goals. The past is acknowledged, where needed, but not a focus during sessions. We do not need to keep going over past events.
Is there any evidence that Hypnotherapy does work?
There have been many studies around hypnotherapy and how it can be of therapeutic support either on its own or alongside other forms of therapy. One recent published study was conducted on police personnel who were experiencing anxiety and depression. Results showed that 78% of participants with clinically significant symptoms recovered, and 97.2% reached wellness post-intervention, with no participants experiencing worsened scores. Please view the published paper on Sage Journals.
How long is each session?
Individual sessions and block bookings are between 50 and 60 mins long.
Specialised programmes vary in length and number of sessions. (Please refer to fees section). Weekly sessions are recommended to achieve steady progress.
Do I have control during sessions?
Yes. You have full control at all times. You may drift off during the session but by the end of the hypnotherapy, you will be fully awake once asked to open your eyes. You can come out of hypnosis at any time.
How will I feel under hypnosis?
It can feel different to different people but the majority of people feel a deep sense of relaxation and calm after the session. You may start to notice small shifts in mood or perspective over time rather than an immediate change. This is due to the change being gradual as your mind is starting to integrate what is learnt during the sessions.
There is no wrong or right way to feel under hypnosis. There is only your experience of it.
Can anyone have hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is not suitable for people experiencing mental health conditions such as psychosis or schizophrenia or who are in psychological crisis.
Written consent will be required, if you are under the care of a GP, psychiatrist or any other mental health professional if you do wish to have hypnotherapy sessions.
Your well-being is always my priority.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from individual to individual and their presenting issue. Most people experience a change within a few sessions but most clients require between 6-12 sessions, sometimes more. Block sessions can be booked which offer a discounted rate.
Are results guaranteed?
There can never be a 100% guarantee of success and it is not ethical for me to claim as such. Many factors can affect success, such as the client’s desire to commit to therapy, readiness for change and importantly, be fully committed to the process and their part outside of sessions. This could simply be listening to an audio each night to using tools learnt in sessions.
I have experience of working with a wide variety of clients and conditions and have achieved success in doing so. Please refer to my testimonials.
What ages do I work with?
I primarily work with people aged 16 and above.
For clients under 18, a parent or guardian will be required to sign a consent form and attend appointments. If you have something specific you would like help with for a child under this age, such as phobias, I will try and accommodate or signpost you to someone who can.
Are you DBS cleared and insured?
Yes, I hold an enhanced DBS check and have the relevant insurance needed. All sessions are conducted under the National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH) guidelines.
Are you registered?
Yes, I am registered with the National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH) and the Association for Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH).
Is my information safe?
Yes. All information given is stored under GDPR guidelines and a Privacy policy. Both of these, together with a consent to start session form, will be sent at time of booking.
All sessions are conducted in a safe and confidential environment.
How do I pay for sessions?

Sessions booked for online or face-to-face sessions, come under the UK consumer law which automatically grants you a statutory 14-day cooling-off period to cancel your booking and receive a full refund.
However, where hypnotherapy sessions can be booked instantly for upcoming dates, the following rules apply:
- Next-Day Bookings: If you choose a session date that falls within 14 days of your booking date, you are requesting that my professional services begin early and signed approval of this will be required, before sessions can start.
- Completed Sessions: Once a session has been fully delivered, your statutory right to cancel is legally lost, and no refund will be issued for the completed work.
- Late Cancellations within the 14 days: If you book a session less than 14 days away and cancel it with less than 48 hours’ notice, our standard 48-Hour Cancellation Policy applies. You will be charged for the bespoke practitioner preparation work already undertaken for your session. (Please refer to section 2. 48-Hour Cancellation Policy)
Are sessions online or face-to-face?
I offer both. For face-to-face sessions, I will ask for your availability and get back to you.
There are stairs to the therapy room for the face-to-face sessions so if this is inaccessible, online sessions will better suit your needs.
